Get Your Dream Car with Revs Check

Tuesday, January 31, 2012
Did you know that if you buy a used car with money owing to a financier from a previous owner, it could be repossessed? It’s true, if you don’t check for financial encumbrances (REVs check) you could end up losing the car you have just purchased. That would be very bad proposition for anyone who has saved hard earned money to buy their dream car. Before purchasing a used vehicle you should always do a REVs Check to see if there is any money owing on the vehicle you are buying.

Getting a REVs check in Sydney done is not at all difficult these days. All you need to do is collect your vehicle's relevant identifying numbers and documents and then call one of the government operated registers of encumbered motor vehicles. They will perform a REVs Check in Sydney and will be able to tell you over the phone if the car you're looking to buy has money owing on it, is stolen, or has been de-registered due to unpaid traffic fines.

Apart from this there is also an online option for car buyers which is the easier and the more preferred option these days. The government operated registers have set up websites which require only the VIN number i.e. the Vehicle Identification Number to perform a REVs check on your car and provide you with the REVS certificate which is the proof of a genuine and successful REVs Check.

The rules are a bit different when you are buying the car from an authorized dealer. However, if you are buying privately, it is your responsibility to find out if there is any money owing on the vehicle. Doing a REVs check and buying a car history report will tell you if a car has been reported stolen, written off by an insurance company, if there is money owing on it or if the registration of the vehicle has been canceled due to unpaid fines.

See You Later, Flat Tires!

Monday, January 30, 2012
You’re driving on a hot summer day with your windows down and CD radio player on full-blast. All of a sudden you start to feel something seems a little off and realize one of your tires is losing air. Whether you decide to fix the tire yourself on the side of the road or give AAA a call, even the best Navigation Unit isn’t going to get you to your destination on time. Bridgestone is hoping to end these situations all-together with their air-free tire concepts shown here.

The color-choice of green would probably be customizable, but in concept form it alludes to the fact that the materials used are 100% recyclable. Its recyclable “thermoplastic” internal spokes are what gives these tires all of their strength and flexibility. The outer rubber on the tire offers a more traditional tread surface required for use on our sometimes rough roads. One criticism has been the possibility of noise due to wind resistance in commercial use. However, if commercialized these tires are expected to be sealed by a thin sidewall of rubber for these reasons. Each tire also only has a weight capacity of up to 330 pounds, but innovations to this technology will undoubtedly be made in the future.

Benefits obviously include the recyclability factor, but they are also safer and less wasteful because they eliminate the risk of punctures. Check out these tires in action on YouTube! (And by “in action”, I mean a girl riding a small scooter equipped with these tires five feet across a stage).

Golden Dream - Rolls Royce With a Hemi Engine - Art Car Central
Golden Dream Rolls Royce with Hemmy - by Ivan Mitev Photography

I stumbled upon this ostentatious golden beauty tonight and had to put it up on art car central. Not only is it a Rolls-Royce covered in gold but its got a Hemi engine of epic proportions. This vintage 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow had an "ordinary" 6.75-liter V8 swapped out for a 592 Hemi, complete with dual-stage nitrous system for a reported output of over 1,000 horsepower. The chrome engine that pops out of the hood might not be the Queens car since it take away from the usually-dominant classic grille, but the hand stitched leather-covered roll cage is both classy and safe at high speeds.

Loving the ActiveE as the 1000 mile mark approaches

Saturday, January 28, 2012

Today I had a great time zipping around Southern California. I met up with fellow MINI E'er Jim Dow in Newport Beach and had a wonderful time visiting with Jim and his family. Jim and his son Jamie test drove the ActiveE and I rode in the back. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of space in the back and the amout of zip with four adults on board.

In my travels today I was able to use two more ChargePoint chargers free of charge. I'm having fun hunting these down and using them. One was at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA and the other was not to far away at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Check out the videos.

For those folks with an iPhone, I love the ChargePoint app along with the Recargo app. Both show detailed maps of where you can find chargers and work great.

I'll be sharing my thoughts on the first 1000 miles either tomorrow or Monday. Can't believe how fast the miles fly by in the BMW ActiveE.

One of the Biggest Pink Colored Freighter Ships on Earth - Contship Germany

I think I found one the biggest pink colored freighter ships on earth called the "Contship Germany" owned by The CONTI-Group, one of the world's leading managing owners of container vessels and tankers. That's a whole lot of pink paint if you ask me but I think its just a starting point for what could be a beautiful art ship. They probably should call on Emily Duffy creator of the Vain Van Art Car about putting on the finishing touches on this transatlantic beauty and then reposting it here on art car central.

Massive Armored Graffiti Art Truck by Mr Cartoon - Art Car Central

This Armored Art Truck was created by artist Mr Cartoon to promote the 2009 film, "Armored", starring the likes of Jean Reno, Laurence Fishburne and Matt Dillon, Mr. Cartoon and SA Studios created a one-of-a-kind armored truck in Cartoon’s signature Angeleno style. The only other armored art car vehicle I've seen so far was one covered in pennies I wrote about here on Art Car Central.

Mark Machado, aka Mr. Cartoon is a Mexican American tattoo and graffiti artist based in Los Angeles, California. At age of eight, Mr. Cartoon realized his passion for art and then went on to his first paying art gig at age twelve. He grew up in Harbor area of Los Angeles County were he begun began airbrushing t-shirts and Lowrider cars before adopting the legendary "Fineline Style" tattoo art.

QNX concept car makes detour at TI headquarters

Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Guest post by Kroy Zeviar, QNX strategic alliances

My colleague Mark Rigley must feel (justifiably) proud these days. He is, after all, head of the team that created the new QNX concept car, which took home a Best of Show award from 2012 CES.

You'd think that Mark and I would be anxious to get home after a hectic, albeit gratifying week at CES. And indeed, we were. But we made a slight detour and stopped over in Dallas to show off the car to our friends at Texas Instruments.

Everyone loved it. The car, based on a Porsche 911, takes advantage of TI's OMAP4 and wireless connectivity solutions, so folks were naturally excited to see what their technology had helped enable.

Better yet, TI brought in a pro photographer to take these cool pix...

Upwards of 400 folks came out to see the car

Checking out the new head unit and digital cluster

Mark, in the passenger seat, giving one of many demos

Best of CES 2012 winner. Woo-hoo!

This shot is just cool.

And speaking of cool, a huge shoutout to the TI OMAP and
wireless solutions teams for all their great support!

Can You Guess the Function of a Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor?

You may have never asked yourself what is a tire pressure monitor sensor. These sensors do exactly what you’d expect; they monitor the pressure within your tires. However, because these sensors are battery powered, over time they will fail and you will need to replace or know how to repair tire pressure monitor sensors. Don’t worry too much about this, when the time comes you will be warned via the little TPMS on your dash and it is a fairly cheap fix. A little fact about tire pressure is that if you are driving on tires that are 10% under inflated, you will see a 1% decrease on your gas mileage.

As of 2007, the NHTSA requires the installation of these sensors on all vehicles. There are two types of these sensors, direct and indirect. Direct tire pressure monitoring sensors are located either inside or outside the tire and they physically measure the pressure. After doing so, they report this information to the instrument cluster of the vehicle. Newer vehicles can display real-time pressures of each tire while driving or parked. Indirect sensors on the other hand don’t actually detect the tire pressure, but they “infer” the pressure through various factors. The main factor is the rotational speed of each individual wheel. If a tire has less pressure, the diameter will be slightly smaller and in turn will spin a bit faster.

Regardless of which type of sensor your vehicle uses, if that warning light comes on DON'T just pretend its not there and put off the job. It is important, and cheap, to fix this issue. Not only can they save you a few extra dollars at the pump, but if they are working properly you will have lower emissions, increased handling of your vehicle, and you won't have to worry about failing that state inspection coming up. Also an under inflated tire is the leading cause of tire failure, so having your sensors in working order will increase your tire life.

REVs Check- An Essential Step Prior to Purchase Used Car

Tuesday, January 24, 2012
The Register of Encumbered Vehicles (REVS) gathers recorded encumbrances for motor vehicles, motorcycles & vessels. A REVS Check can tell you if the used car or a boat that you are planning to purchase has any money owing on it from a previous owner. A REVs certificate is proof that there is no debt registered on the car at the time of purchasing it.

If you happen to buy a second-hand car with a debt on it, the car may be repossessed and the money spent on it won’t be refunded. One in five used cars bought privately has money owing on it. So it pays to do a REVs check before you buy. This is important information and it increases the need of getting a REVS check done before buying any vehicle. The REVS database will have information on the following type of vehicles:

• Cars
• Motorbikes
• Caravans
• Trailers
• Boats with hull identification numbers (HINs)
• Jet skis
• Outboard motors with engine numbers.

REVS does not cover:

• Boats without HINs
• Outboard motors without engine numbers
• Farming machinery
• Mining machinery

A REVS check doesn´t tell you whether a car is stolen or written off. So, one must not have this criterion in mind while going for a REVs Check. V Check or vehicle information check gives you the entire history of the vehicle. V Check offers those planning to buy a vehicle, especially a second hand vehicle, a quick and easy way to obtain important information about the vehicle before its purchase.

The vehicle information check or V Check can be purchased for a car, truck, caravan, trailer, bus or motorcycle which has been manufactured on or after 1 January 1989. The vehicle information check empowers consumers to make informed decisions when purchasing a used vehicle and helps in reducing fraud and vehicle theft.

Rolling on the highway using Cruise Control

Monday, January 23, 2012
Unlike the MINI E, the ActiveE has Cruise Control. Leaving Burbank tonight around 10pm provided a perfect opportunity to check out the range while using Cruise Control. I was very impressed.

Drove 40 miles with 37 of those miles on the freeway and the cruise control set at 72 mph. 3 miles on surface streets to get home. ECO Mode on with rear window defrost, ac/heat to clear windows, iPhone playing Pandora.

When I left Burbank, I had 74 miles in ECO Mode. When I pulled into garage, I had 31 remaining. This was mostly a flat drive home with a slight decline going down the 605. Obviously going up a hill or going up a slight incline would change these results. The more I discover about this car, the more I like.
