Japanese Car Tree - Christmas will never be the same again

Japanese Car Tree
via boing boing

That's right folks, Christmas will never be the same again because of this one image of a Japanese Car Tree. This comes to us via a Japanese Junkyard were a Japanese hackberry tree sprouted from a seed 25 years ago and managed to lift a car in the air. The workers there built a small fence around the tree protecting it as it grows. I think this is the birth of a whole new line of Christmas ornaments that will enabling consumer recycle all the old cars from going to waste. The only problem see is finding a base strong enough to support the tree from falling down on top of the kids Christmas morning. Would this be covered under your car insurance, who knows.

Michael Jackson Mini Art Cars
Michael Jackson died today at age 50 died after being rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital late Thursday afternoon. This is his collection of mini-art cars that look like they might have once been part of a Disneyland ride, a bit on the boring side but I just wanted to make sure he got his due here on Art Car Central. May he rest in peace and our best wishes go to all his family and fans.

Pig Food Art Truck - The MaximusMinimus

Pig Food Art Truck - The MaximusMinimus

Maximus Minimus or The Pig Food Art Truck is the brainchild of Kurt Beecher Dammeier up in seattle who also is the person behind Beecher’s Cheese and other Seattle food endeavors. Kurt hired local designer Collin Reedy to make it all happen and ended up up with a superb Pig Art Truck that deserves a place here on art car central. They serve pulled pork sandwiches but also have veg sandwich with fennel, onions, and bulgur for vegetarians and vegans who might be "pork challenged". I love the fact that it looks so industrial and heavy duty as if it was in one of those end of the world apocalyptic movies. I can see it now, the last remaining source of food in a land filled with mutants all trying to get in for a bite to eat. The truck is racing through barriers of steel and flaming cars. I see the flame thrower coming out of the nostrils and deadly gas out of the back end. And don't forget the two.50 caliber mounted inside the ears. With this bullet proof beauty there is new hope for the remnants of the "Fast Food Chain Wars" that destroyed our planet in 2025. Wow what a rant.

Where To Get a Used Car Inspected and What Is Covered

Thursday, June 11, 2009
No piece of car buying advice is more often ignored than this: Have a mechanic inspect a used car before you buy it. Why do buyers plunk down thousands of dollars on a car with little more than an around-the-block test-drive and a glance under the hood? Three reasons deter car buyers from taking this vital step:

* Most consumers don't know that good used car inspections are readily available.
* Many car buyers don't want to pay the extra money for an inspection.
* Some people anticipate a hassle prying the car away from a dealer or private party.

With a little planning, the vehicle inspection process can be as fast and revealing as a Hollywood exposé. If the inspection report is clean, you can buy with confidence. If it unearths a checkered past, you can back away or negotiate a lower price in line with the cost of repairs.

What It Costs, What It Covers

Nearly all auto service facilities — from chain repair stores to dealerships to independent garages — offer some type of pre-purchase inspection. The going price is about $200, roughly the cost of an hour's labor for a mechanic. Most repair facilities will give a quick description of the number of points in the inspection and how it is conducted. In most cases, however, the findings of inspections are not guaranteed.

Automotive experts agree that a good inspection serves several functions:

* Verifies the equipment, or options, on the car
* Confirms the condition level of the car
* Reveals hidden problems with the body, frame or engine
* Finds engine codes that can reveal engine problems
* Builds confidence in the value of the vehicle

Many major problems that can be spotted by a good inspector include:

Frame damage — If the frame shows damage it indicates the car has been in a serious accident. Unless it has been repaired correctly, the car's wheels might not track properly, causing the vehicle to pull to one side and eventually leading to tire damage.

Poor previous repair work — This could range from sloppy bodywork to improper installation of modifications.

Smoker's car — If a car is being purchased remotely, via eBay for example, the seller could disguise the fact that someone has smoked in the car. Smoke gets into the vehicle's headliner and upholstery, and it is impossible to remove the smell.

Flood-damaged car — A vehicle history report can red flag a flood-damaged car unless its title has been falsified. If that's the case, then it's important for an inspector to check for signs of water damage.

Mobile or Garage Inspection?

Many people will be faced with the choice of having a mobile inspector look at a car or taking the vehicle to a local mechanic. While it's most important to get a qualified vehicle inspection, each method offers its advantages and disadvantages.

A mobile inspection is fast and convenient. The inspector comes to your home or office and performs the inspection on-site. An inspection report is printed out on the spot and given to the buyer or seller. Inspectors also photograph any damage and take shots of the vehicle from different angles.

Inspections done by your local mechanic, or the service department of a dealership specializing in that brand of car, are performed with more specialized equipment. Primarily, the car can be put up on a lift and the underside of the car examined for fluid leaks.

While no inspection is guaranteed to find every flaw in a used car, a trained eye can help you avoid serious problems. Given the fact that thousands of dollars are at stake, an hour of your time and a hundred dollars is good insurance against the unknown.

Tornado Attack Car by Steve Green - The Art of Staying Alive Inside a Tornado

Tornado Attack Car by Steve Green

The question is asked is Steve Green's Tornado Attack Car an Art Car. My answer is a big YES. Steve Green has mastered the art of staying alive inside a tornado by building a custom car that can withstand an attack from mother nature. He did this by building a car with military grade windows that was pretty much impervious to high winds and the ability to drop to the ground in seconds preventing the car from getting sucked up. Steve Green used to be a NASCAR driver and that is also why the car looks so much like a race car. More info here.

Squirly Whirly Art Car by Tre Taylor

Squirly Whirly Art Car by Tré Taylor was first seen at last weeks Maker Faire in San Mateo CA. It was one of the many art cars that came, but it was the only one that had never been seen before. Tré told me that she and her friend had just put the finishing touches the night before and drove it Saturday morning to be at the Maker Faire. She drove Squirly Whirly the slow way up El Camino to San Mateo from Santa Clara since Squirly had not been road tested for highway speeds. Squirly Whirly is actually the car formerly known as the candle car and Tré is also the creator of the famous Fahrvernpüssy Lounge now in the shop for some repairs. Squirly is covered in fans and the giant Squirel holding a nut is named Larry. Check out the video, its much better live.
